Blue-eyed woman with a straight and pristine smileDo you notice crooked or overlapping teeth staring back at you in the mirror? Is your smiling preventing you from smiling confidently and proudly? If you are unsatisfied with the appearance of your smile, our doctors in Woodinville, WA provide cosmetic dentistry treatment for overlapping teeth.

Our full line of cosmetic dentistry treatments includes orthodontics and teeth contouring. The type of treatment recommended will depend on your time commitment, overall budget, and how quick you want results. Below are the three most common treatments we recommend for treating misaligned teeth.

Invisalign®

While traditional braces used to be the only treatment method available for correcting overlapping teeth, Invisalign® has quickly jumped to the top of the list of the most requested treatments. Both adult and teenage patients find Invisalign® beneficial for a number of reasons. Not only does it provide clear, discreet aligners to shift teeth into proper alignment, it is also more comfortable than traditional braces. As an added bonus, there are no food restrictions since the trays can be easily removed for eating.

If you are looking for a cosmetic dentistry solution that helps you maintain your natural teeth, this treatment method is for you. Although it does not provide quick results, treatment can generally be completed in about a year if trays are worn consistently. With this method, you will be given a series of aligners at the start of treatment. After wearing your first set of trays for two weeks, you will graduate to the next set of aligners. To be the most effective, aligners should be worn for at least 20 hours a day.

Porcelain Veneers

Often referred to as instant orthodontics, porcelain veneers are custom-made shells that fit over the front surface of teeth. Veneers are made from durable and aesthetically pleasing porcelain, and are tailored to blend with the natural shape, size, and color of your teeth. In addition to overlapping teeth, this treatment method can conceal a number of cosmetic concerns, including chipped, gapped, and discolored teeth.

This treatment method involves removing a small amount of enamel from the tooth so that the shells fit seamlessly over the teeth. Impressions are then taken and sent to a lab where each shell will be fabricated to complement your smile. Once completed, the shells will be bonded to the front surface of the tooth. Treatment can generally be completed in about two office visits.

Dental Bonding

Of the three methods discussed, dental bonding provides the quickest and most affordable solution to treating overlapping teeth. During the office visit, the teeth will be thorough cleaned and dried.

Composite resin will then be color-matched to your smile and then delicately applied over the affected teeth. In between each layer, a curing light will be used to harden the resin in place. This stabilizes the bonding and reinforces the strength of the tooth. Composite resin is a material made of both acrylic and ceramic. Although not as durable as porcelain, it delivers lasting and realistic results.
